Repot a root-bound plant

Moving up one pot size, not several, gives the roots room to grow without leaving so much extra soil that it stays wet too long.

Steps

  1. 1. Choose a new pot only 1 to 2 inches larger in diameter than the current one.
  2. 2. Gently loosen circling roots around the outside of the root ball before repotting.
  3. 3. Water thoroughly after repotting and keep the plant out of direct sun for a few days while it adjusts.
